v2.0 — The Pocket Table · 2026-10-28
  • The phone is the table now (2026-10-28) — 45 of the last 83 visits came from a phone, most of them on a 360×780 screen, so every page was measured at that size before it was touched. On the chat page the story column went from 299 to 446 px — 38% of the screen became 57% — the composer, the starter chips and the narration row were squeezed, every control is at least 44×44 px, text fields stay at 16 px so iOS stops zooming, and the login form starts at y 635 instead of y 1864. On the narrowest screens the narration progress line has no room inside the pill: it shows the button state only, said plainly.
  • One row of controls above the composer (2026-10-28) — the narration player used to carry the sentence "[♪] latest narration — press ▶". It is gone: the play button opens the latest narration and says so on hover. Play, the combat log and the voice picker now share a single line at every width (measured at 360, 390, 768, 1024 and 1280 — the row is 60 → 30 px at 1280 and the story gained 30 px).
  • Qwen 4 is announced, not here (2026-10-28) — Alibaba confirmed the Qwen 4 family at the Apsara conference on 22 September and said "very soon"; the names were previewed on stage. It is in training: no weights, no API listing at our provider, no date. This ledger does not badge a model that cannot be called — when Qwen 4 is real it comes to the table, played through our own campaigns first. The roster today is unchanged: step-3.7-flash free for everyone, Qwen 3.8 Flash, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and Step 5 Preview behind the one-time unlock.
  • Prices are being adjusted — nothing under your feet (2026-10-28) — the free table keeps its 20 fresh turns every day, no card and no email; that part is not changing. The paid side is under review, and the new numbers land on the pricing page before they take effect, announced here first. The 10€ unlock stays one-time and permanent, bought and donated turns never expire, and nothing gets retro-priced. No date yet.
  • A domain of its own, and support that continues (2026-10-28) — dnd.rostad.cc was always a borrowed corner of another site; the cauldron is getting an address of its own, and the move is announced here before it happens. Campaigns live on the server, not in the URL, so nothing is tied to the address you typed today. Support continues: fixes ship with the reason they were needed, and the open list stays visible — a fallen enemy keeps its last hit points in the combat state, a second press of the die still spends a turn, and Hunter's Mark's extra die waits on concentration tracking.
  • Your attack is rolled before the DM speaks (2026-10-23) — the engine settles hit or miss by comparing your roll to the target's AC, rolls the weapon damage from the weapon you carry, and hands the Dungeon Master an outcome that already exists. Two presses of the die can no longer turn an 18 into a miss, and a hit no longer goes unrecorded because the reply did not mention a number.
  • Sharpshooter pays its +10 (2026-10-23) — the feat always charged its -5 to hit and never paid the damage. The engine adds it now whenever the feature is on your sheet and the shot is called as Sharpshooter.
  • A timed-out Lorekeeper retries (2026-10-23) — when the bookkeeping model failed, the turn's damage, XP and effects vanished without a trace. A failed call now falls back to the house model before anything is lost.
  • Half-casters keep their slots (2026-10-23) — rangers and paladins were missing from the spell-slot table, so a level 2 ranger held zero slots while the DM narrated two. Both classes are in it, and a zeroed slot line is now shown to the DM instead of hidden. Broken sheets were corrected by hand.
  • The round counter moves (2026-10-23) — a fifty-two-turn fight never left Round 1. The DM is now told to name the round each combat turn, which is what the engine reads.
  • The free minds that still answer (2026-10-22) — the free model picker was swept of stale entries: one voice had left the free tier, one answers 404 from its provider, two only run inside OpenRouter's own agent path. A free voice no longer has to be text-only either — text in, text out, no cost is the rule now, so MiniMax M3.1 Flash (million-token context) and the rest of today's free pool are in the list: fourteen voices instead of the old five-seat cap, hand-picked ones pinned first. A model that only arrived through the newest-first fill used to be silently swapped back to StepFun 3.7 Flash — the server's allow-list now follows exactly what the picker shows. Free voices share one key's quota, so a busy hour is a rate-limit error, not a dead model; those stay.
  • Correct the sheet the codex got wrong (2026-10-21) — if character creation handed you a spell or a feat you never picked, you can change it now: open Spells to drop one and add the one you should have had, open Features to swap a feat for another. The Dungeon Master's "it is updated" and the page finally agree, and every correction is written into Character Growth. What stays locked: abilities, HP, AC, XP, level and spell slots.
  • Your limits, in plain numbers (2026-10-21) — four chips above the spellbook show your class and level, the highest spell level you can hold, cantrips known and spells known, each with a ? that explains it. The level picker only offers what your class can cast — the rest are greyed with the level that would open them. Features swap one for one, and the sheet locks itself mid-fight instead of quietly refusing.
  • Watching for Qwen 4 and the next DeepSeek (2026-10-21) — neither is released: no weights, no API listing, no date. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash (build 1017) remains the patron's DM and the sharpest storyteller in the roster. This ledger does not badge models that cannot be called — when they are real, they will be played through our own campaigns first.
  • Six voices at the table (2026-10-06) — start campaigns in German, French, Spanish or Italian next to English and Swedish: the Dungeon Master narrates in your tongue, and the character sheet — backstory, personality, gear and lore included — is woven in it too, while class and race stay exact machine keys. Voice narration gets a native-pronunciation instruction; voice input remains English-only (the ASR engine supports English and Chinese, nothing else — said plainly). Battle reports, the chronicle, quests and travel times ("3 Tage", "3 jours") follow the campaign language, and the language gate was swept so a non-English campaign can no longer drift into Swedish under the hood.
  • The archetype accordion (2026-10-06) — every fate is now a small expandable card: a colour dot, a name, a chevron; click to read its lore and tags, click again to fold it back. Two per row on desktop, one on phones. The six mature archetypes moved from their separate dropdown into the same list — the "dark paths" select and the emoji name tags are gone. The hovering cauldron sigil above the gate was replaced by this news line (the ✕ retires it until the next entry), and illuminated initials stop breaking words apart — "C auldron" and "HOOSE YOUR FATE" are fixed on all eight page banners.
  • Local AI — run the Dungeon Master on your own machine (2026-09-29) — the server still builds every prompt, but the DM's words can now come from your own Ollama: set a base URL (any host and port) in Settings, pick a 🏮 model, and the narration is generated on your hardware. The DM step costs 0 turns. Honest caveats: the Lorekeeper and fact-extraction run on our side by default (a soft cap of ~100 local messages a day applies to them), or you opt into Whole Cauldron local in Settings and your hardware carries those steps too — cap ~300 a day, best with a 14B+ thinking model; dice, HP and combat stay server-authoritative, and voice and images still cost turns. You need a desktop browser on the same machine or LAN as Ollama, with OLLAMA_HOST and OLLAMA_ORIGINS set; a thinking model of 14B or more is recommended (qwen3:8b as a floor, 16k context). Your base URL is kept in the browser only. Rolling out gradually this week — the models page has the details →
  • New pricing — one unlock opens everything (2026-09-27) — the free table refreshes 30 turns every day with step-3.7-flash. The one-time 10€ unlock adds +100 turns that never expire (spent only after your daily turns run out) and opens every Dungeon Master (Qwen 3.8 Flash, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, Step 5 Preview), voice narration (Qwen & StepFun) and image generation (StepFun, Wan 2.7 Pro, Qwen Image 3 Pro) — permanently, no 30-day window. Each narration or image costs 1 turn. Donations still work: every € adds exactly 100 turns, and any donation — 1€ is enough — permanently unlocks Undo and campaign export.
  • DeepSeek V4.1 Flash at the table (2026-09-21) — DeepSeek's open-weights reasoning model (552B, 16B active, 1M-token context) joined the roster as a Dungeon Master, replacing V4 Flash 0731.
  • Meet Step 5 Preview (2026-09-20) — StepFun's deep-thinking flagship joined the roster. With the 10€ unlock, pick it at the model gate when you start an adventure, or switch to it in Settings.
  • Qwen 3.8 Flash joins the roster — with the 10€ unlock, set it as your Dungeon Master in Settings.
  • Give your composer room (2026-09-13) — the divider between the DM's log and your own words drags to resize, and the text box is generous on desktop and mobile.
  • Combat that keeps its own count (2026-09-13) — rounds turn over by themselves once everyone has acted, and each round closes with a single honest health snapshot.
  • Undo your last turn — a mistyped line or a decision made too fast can be rewound: the message, the DM's reply and everything the Lorekeeper recorded from it. Inventory, gold, HP, quests and memory return to where they stood. It costs one turn, and only the most recent turn can be rewound. Undo is part of the donation unlock: any donation — 1€ is enough — permanently unlocks it together with campaign export. Free accounts see the Undo button locked.
  • The party portrait blends again — the character card had gone opaque; the portrait now sits behind the name, class and health bars the way it used to.
  • Your blade rolls, the DM does not — weapon damage now tumbles through the server's dice engine on every hit, doubled on a critical. The story decides what it feels like; the dice decide what it costs.
  • Conditions that actually bind — prone, restrained, stunned and poisoned change rolls, turns and HP between rounds. A knocked-down goblin is easier to hit, and it hits worse.
  • Level-ups that level up — new tiers grant hit-dice health, class features, spell slots and a proficiency bonus that finally scales. Armour moves your AC; long rests hand back half your hit dice.
  • A rulebook that matches the machine — the mechanics page was audited line by line against the code; spell slots and rests are documented at last, and offline rolls say so honestly.
  • One gold across the realm — shared palette tokens, HP bars that update every combat turn, quests that pay what they promise, and a purse that can no longer be quietly rounded to zero.

🧙‍♂️

Dungeon Master

An AI that tells the world — describes environments, plays NPCs and drives the plot. Just write what you do in plain words, the way you'd speak at a real table. No syntax, no commands — the DM understands intent and answers with consequences.

🦉

The Lorekeeper

A quiet scribe that keeps the books — HP, gold, items, XP, quests, locations. When the DM says you take damage or find treasure, the Lorekeeper updates everything in the background. You never track numbers yourself; the world remembers.

🎲

Dice & Mechanics

When the outcome is uncertain, the DM calls for a roll and a Roll or Write card appears in the chat. Click the dice to roll, or the pen to describe your attempt in words instead. Nat 20 = triumph, nat 1 = catastrophe.

🏮

Your Own Machine

Since v1.5 the Dungeon Master can narrate from your own Ollama — point the base URL in Settings at a machine on your desk or LAN and the DM step costs 0 turns. The server still builds every prompt and keeps dice, HP and the Lorekeeper honest; the words are yours. Opt into Whole Cauldron local and the Lorekeeper and memory run on your hardware too — ~300 messages a day. Bring a thinking model of 14B or more.
